While all of you were enjoying a relaxing winter weekend at home, we were working hard on launching our new blog. Of course, the fact that we did it during our vacation in Hawaii made it a little more tolerable. But you were on our minds the whole time. In fact, even while we were visiting the beautiful boutiques, we were thinking of nothing but the way we were going to tell you about it in our next blog (see below). How we sacrifice for art!
We stayed in lovely Kailua, located on the windward side of Oahu. It’s named after the not one, but two lagoons that run through Kailua Bay, and, take our words, this idyllic beach town is gorgeous! Set against two stunning public beaches, Kailua has a small beach town vibe with hip boutiques and restaurants. We took a break or two from working on our blog for some serious shopping and wrote the blog to prove it. Here are a few of our favorite haunts in Kailua that you might want to check out:
Best Boutiques to Shop | Kailua, Hawaii
Sand People If you love designer beachwear, get ready to do some serious shopping. So many clothes I wanted to buy here! My faves were Johnny Was embroidered bohemian shirts and Hard Tail dresses. Sand People also sells beautiful jewelry for some beachwear bling and beach bags that prove, yes, you can take it with you.
Bikini Bird Don’t you just love their name! This is the place to go for swimsuits and cover-ups. I just loved the wall full of sunglasses. After a week at the beach, owning just one pair of sunglasses didn’t seem enough.
Guava Shop If you forgot to pack anything on your vacation, this is the store to find replacements. Swimwear, beach towels, summer dresses and face scrubs, Guava shop has it call. We just couldn’t get enough of their Turkish Beach Towels. They literally wrapped us in luxury!
SoHa Living Be prepared – you won’t leave this store empty-handed. So many cute things! Soaps, adorable little dishes, pillows, dresses, and jewelry. Beware shopaholics – this is not the place to overcome your addiction.
Oliver Men’s Shop Oliver’s is a great place to shop for your man. Oliver Men’s shop carries hats, t-shirts, aloha shirts and cool accessories. Our favorite, the Fatigue Jacket, customized button down army jackets made of recycled material. Each jacket is unique with one of a kind vintage patches. How cool is that? I really wanted one of those jackets for myself. Hope our guys won’t notice when they “go missing” from their closets.
If we had to pick a fave, it would be Island Bungalow Hawaii hands down. The store describes itself as” home decor and clothing for the bohemian spirit.” We loved it! The globally inspired merchandise, such as hand painted Boho dresses, one of a kind Kuchi embroidered Kimono jackets and colorful Kantha quilts (made from layers of vintage cotton saris stitched together) are beautifully displayed. Kantha began with the thrift of Bengali women, it means rags. For centuries they would take discarded cloth and sew them together to create something new such as quilts. The hand embroidery on the quilts and sarees are stunning. We couldn’t believe the owner designed the beautiful hand stamped motifs seen on the bed sheets. Be sure to ask about their workshops such as indigo dyeing and block printing. You may go home with more gifts than the ones you buy.
Olive Boutique The women’s version of Oliver Men’s Shop, great summer dresses and just like Oliver’s the aesthetic’s of the boutique are a senses for the eyes!
